Lend a Hand
If you’re interested in supporting Seraphim in a non-monetary way, consider serving as a volunteer. Possibilities include ushering, working at the box office, receiving donations of food and clothing at concerts, and helping at receptions. These are important tasks, and you’ll have a unique opportunity to connect with our community as you work. Plus, you can reserve a seat for yourself before the concert and bring a friend for free. We would like to develop a regular cadre of volunteers for each season, as that would make it easier to manage the front of the house. We’re now accepting inquiries for 2026-2027. Thank you for your interest in Seraphim!
USHERING. Arrive one hour prior to concert time to meet with the house manager, Mark Nemeskal. Learn where the restrooms and exits are located, and follow his instructions. You can be the friendly face people see when they arrive, making their presence feel special. You may be asked to help count the number attending the concert. Plan to stay after to help tidy up the space. Email Mark Nemeskal to volunteer.
BOX OFFICE. Usually at least two individuals are required to manage box office activities. One needs to be comfortable accepting credit card payments, with instructions given by Seraphim’s treasurer, Jay Lane. When you arrive you should learn where the restrooms and exits are located. A list of those who have purchased tickets in advance will be available at the ticket desk. Email Jay Lane to volunteer.
CLOTHING DONATIONS. This is a once a year occurrence at our three Christmas concerts. You will collect donations of clothing and other items brought by those attending the concerts. The items will need to be placed in boxes or bags in preparation for delivery to the Friday Café at First Church in Cambridge. The house manager, Mark Nemeskal, usually supervises this. Email Mark Nemeskal to volunteer.
RECEPTIONS. Staffing is needed to assist with set-up, during the reception, and clean-up. Set-up may require your arriving to the concert early and missing the last piece of the concert. During the actual reception assistance will be needed with serving, replenishing, and removing used plates, glassware, and flatware. Most importantly, help is needed following the reception to manage leftovers, rinse and pack the plates, glassware and flatware, and carry everything to the caterer’s vehicle. Seraphim’s general manager, Daryl Bichel, and chorister John Nesby manage receptions for the ensemble. Email Daryl Bichel to volunteer.
